Believe it or not, footy is back!
The Cronulla Sharks’ Pathways and Development squads have been hard at work over the past few months, gearing up for the junior representative season kicking off on February 1st. The start of the representative season marks the start of the journey for the next generation of Sharks talent and whom for many marks their first time playing in the iconic Black, White, and Blue.
The u16 and u18 development squads serve as crucial incubators for young players. These squads don’t compete in formal competitions but instead engage in a series of trial games against other clubs. This approach fosters learning and development, preparing players for the Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball competitions in the years to come.
For the u16 development players, it’s a pivotal moment—their first taste of representative football and for many the beginning of a dream to one day play for the Sharks or in the NRL.
Yesterday, both development squads traveled to Shell Harbour for their first official trial of the season, facing off against the ISC Dragons at Ron Costello Oval. Under the sweltering heat and humidity, both sides showcased their talent, running through various player combinations and giving everyone valuable time on the field.
The u16 squad under the guidance of Sharks legend Paul Gallen demonstrated strong potential that’s sure to excite all Sharks fans.
The Sharks Pathways Manager and Coordinator were both on hand to analyse the players’ performances, earmarking key areas for development and scouting players who may step up to the competition sides if needed.
Don’t miss your chance to come and watch the first outing for Sharks Matty's Cup and SG Ball Squads. Head to Sharks Academy at Cronulla High School next Friday, December 20th, from 5:00 PM, when they will play Souths in their traditional pre-Christmas trial.
