The 2024 Cronulla JRL junior season launched in spectacular fashion at Marton Park, highlighted by the first Girls Tag to Tackle Transition session for the year. The program is run by the NRL and designed to introduce girls to the tackle format of rugby league in a safe and supportive environment.
The session was open to girls already playing Blues Tag or those simply wanting to try their hand at tackle rugby league. The incredible turnout highlighted the growing enthusiasm for female participation in rugby league, with Cronulla JRL already home to one of the largest groups of female players in the state.
Adding to the excitement, the Cronulla JRL Board was joined by club representatives, mascots and a passionate group of young athletes eager to develop their skills. This session was just the first of four in the program, which will play a vital role in preparing more girls for the transition to tackle rugby league.
With the Sharks’ NRLW Grand Final appearance last season fueling even more interest in the game, the future of female rugby league in the Shire has never looked brighter. As pathways at the Sharks continue to expand, opportunities for young girls to progress in the sport are stronger than ever.
The day was a resounding success and a clear sign that the 2025 season is set to be another huge one for girls' rugby league.
