The SGBall Sharks have kept their slim finals hopes alive, while ending the chances of their opponents in scoring an impressive 28-18 win over the Penrith Panthers.
In a performance which highlighted the quality of the Sharks side, the under-19 Cronulla side led throughout in scoring a five tries to three win in the match played at Bluebet Stadium in Penrith.
The Sharks took a 10-6 lead to half time and went on with the job, a Penrith try almost on the full-time siren narrowing the margin, with the final scoreline flattering the home side.
Winger Te Wehi Waitere scored twice for the Sharks, his second try some eight minutes from full-time sealing the result, with Sam Stonestreet, Josh Finau and hooker Sam Healey also getting their names on the scoresheet.
With the win the Sharks moved to 10 competition points but sit in eighth and need a number of things to go their way in the last round should they hope to qualify for the six-team Finals series.
The Sharks would need a win over the seventh-placed Parramatta Eels, then hope for either the Illawarra Steelers or Canberra Raiders to lose their last round matches.
The Steelers play the Bears, the Raiders the Dragons, two teams sitting well outside of Finals contention.
